Life has taken me far, far away from the computer these days. To top it off, hosting has slowly disappeared. I'm not sure what I'm going to do with this blog, but for right now I'm going to leave it as is. Some links are still live which is why I won't just "hide" the blog until it gets cleaned up. I'm not in a position to respond to posts on a timely basis. Enjoy what is still left. I'm not sure if I'm returning to designing at this moment. I'm doing more photography, spending time with my kids and working.

Okay, you are my fans so I want to give you what YOU want more than create what I feel like creating. Should I always put an alpha in the kit or just offer the alphas separately, or do you have no opinion either way? At this point, I think everyone has a vast variety of alphas from kits, etc. and most are pretty versatile. I'm trying to get kits out and also save on download size of these. The papers I do can be huge. In the past 10 kits, I think I've only done two alpha sets. So, please leave me your thoughts in the comments and after a couple of weeks I'll make my changes accordingly.

Facelifts and Facebook

In the right sidebar you'll notice I added a new box for Facebook. I recently added a Fan Page since this is a trend in keeping in touch with designers. Just another thing for me to update... weeeee! That's fine, as I get more settled into the new home and organized on my laptop, things will be running at top notch before we know it.

Also, I'm going to take one of my newer kits and revamp the sites. I will most likely offer new buttons, however, if you want to keep using the old fan button, feel free.

I might not be the post-a-holic like I had been in the past, but in time you'll all see what I have been up to with goodies in tow.

I'd like to also take this moment to remind you that you should go and choose a new password for things and start changing them. It's good to do this once in a while, especially if recently you had scumware on your computer. Also....

BACK UP YOUR FILES! Come on gals, DVD's aren't that pricey anymore. For those precious saves, keep a working copy and one to archive. If you have a detached garage or a relatives house, I suggest keeping a copy hidden there in case something unfortunate should happen. This is also a good place to keep that disc of images of everything you own for insurance purposes, snap a pic of that serial number too.

The weekend is upon us. Our annual fair is in town. Summer is starting it's wind down (unless you are down under, then you are greatly anticipating warmer weather). So get out and enjoy it like I plan to - and take those pix for some more scrapping fun.

My Hodge Podge Blog

Three of my blogs were merged, some posts removed, and now I'm working get the graphics on the site. Why is it so easy for me to do it for others but not myself?

Anyway, I give up for the day... here's what I have so far... but expect it to change. The background is from a google search and no credit was giving from the source. If you know it, let me know so I can post in the footer. I may not keep the image anyway, I have something else that's really cute too and goes better, just not wanting to open up a program and edit anything. Ever have days like that?

I've been busy

I had to sidetrack for a bit. I was hired to do a memory book with one of my kits and it had 100 layouts. I took my time on it so it would be more than what she expected. It went over very well, she was estatic. Now she's just waiting for it to come back from the printer (think she used Lulu).

Besides that, I have a part time job plus I'm struggling to get repairs done on the house that will allow me to move in the rest of our furniture and belongings. We did manage new carpet. Still waiting on kitchen cabinets. The built-ins were made with formeldahyde-based plywood shelves. So all I have are upper cabs and my dishes are everywhere, on the baker's rack, counters, on top of the refridgerator. Makes cooking a blast I tell ya!

I do have another kit in the works and expect by the beginnig of the week to have a goodie bag from it available. I can't believe how crappy my newest items download counts are. I'm used to 3 figures.

New Twist On Designs

I have embarked on a new journey with my graphics. I'm starting with some of my word art and adding them to t-shirts and hats. Then I'm going to do other things like calendars and skateboards. All if this will be presented on a blog and a store, named Tickle Tees. This doesn't mean things around here are going to slow down. It just means when I do a kit, I will also do something from the kit to add to Tickle Tees.

I'm getting things set up so I can have the ability to do the designing end one day a week and then the rest of the week can be dedicated to a regular day job (gotta get one of those still) and being a mom. I'm excited because I've been wanting to see my work on a t-shirt for a long time and now there's a home on the internet for me to do just that.

Now all I need to do is create the graphics for the new blog and store (meaning headers, backgrounds and buttons).

Two More New Kits and GOOD NEWS!!

Here are two more kits that I have finished. I'm working on goodie bags, quick pages or mini-kits as freebies, with the full kits of these past previews being available in my Lulu store.

The good news is that I now have high-speed again so no more dial up dragging me down. Once I get the new out of the way, the archives will get replaced with fresh links. I do have 90% or better of all my creations so I don't think I'll need to locate any lost files. What I have recovered from crashes should be sufficient to keep everyone happy.

Templates will be back soon too, not sure if it'll be an every day kind of thing like it was or if I'll have a handful up thru the week.

I have two more kits that I'm fininishing, a bumble bee themed kit and one called "At Sea".

When's all of this coming about? Next week sometime. I have carpet guys coming to replace this really nasty carpet in my new place (the house used to be a rental and they had German Sheppards they never let outside). I have a ton of furniture just sitting in the garage waiting to be moved in. Then life should resume back to what I know as my normal, and I use that term loosely. I'm sure many of you know what I'm talking about and also have the same kind of normal I do.

Anyone wanting to have access to my store kits to do quick pages? Email me with your kit of choice with a 2nd choice and I'll draw names. One person per kit. How's that sound??

Yep, Filefront deleted EVERYTHING. Sorry, my fault. Without internet, I can't get on to see what's needing attention and missed my window to keep the files from being deleted.

I just got my new place Wednesday, so moving right along... once settled I'll get these back up. Check back in July to see if I was able to get these back up.

This came in my email from Wacom, since I own and registered my tablet. I thought all of you would be interested in it, and recognize a few designers in the process. By the way, I paid about $100 for my Bamboo Fun tablet. I am saving to get a larger tablet. BF is nice to get started with, I just find it a bit too small for the large dimensions we use. It's fine for smaller things link siggies, taggers and web design projects though.

In this layout I used the glitter paper, angel wings brush, 3 gradient overlays to color the page (2 above the layout and one just above the background), and I used parts from my Snowglobe Factory kit available here. The font is occidental ultra light, copied and shifted to bold the type.

New Tutorial - Recoloring

On my Gimp blog I have added a new tutorial. Adobe and other users will find it easy to follow along with. It's about recoloring single and multiple layered elements, including element templates. This is a tutorial you'll end up learning and using a lot. It's fairly simple but one that someone always wants to know how to do and not an obvious choice for a novice. I remember the days when I thought the only way to recolor was with the hue slider, bucket or paint brush. The results were scary. So glad there's internet!!

Snowglobe Factory and Freebie

Here's my latest store creation. I revamped my snowglobe from my blinkie making days. For details see the store blog. Don't worry, these are a very low price for the 120 megs worth of goodies you'd be getting.

The freebie is a circle of diamonds. It's something I created while putting together overlays for the globes. To tint these, create a second layer above the diamonds, bucket fill with your desired color, change the layer mode to overlay or burn. Play with duplicating the color layer, changing opacity and having one layer as overlay and another burn in order to get your color perfect. I have used as many as 4 color layers to get my color right, so it's all up to you and how you like it. There's no wrong way if you like it. Don't forget to merge the layers (use merge visible not merge down or you'll lose the effect).

New Kits Posted

All of my kits have been posted, except for Bobbi-Alice, Apple Butter and Grass Stains. Those I'll get to sometime tomorrow. I just had a hard time wrangling previews and stuff tonight. I still have detailed previews for Berniece Adelle, Claudine, Bobbi-Alice and Apple Butter to do yet.

FINALLY: You can grab Claudine, Isadora and SinahAnn - the kits I've gotten emails about. Those are posted at Ditters Doodles and at Lulu, ready for you to purchase and download. DD blog has direct store links for each kit.

Christmas cards? If you are making your cards, consider grabbing some of the Exquisit Alphas. The gold, silver and red are perfect for this time of year and the font is a classy choice.

Freebies?? No time, though I have thought about a hodge-podge goodie bag from store kits. We'll see.

2.5 Gig CD and Other News

Over at Ditters Doodles main I posted info on how you can get 2.5 gigs worth of kits, alphas and papers at a discount.

I also have been creating more detailed previews for you to see the entire kit.

There's a delay on uploading the newest kits to the store. Tammy had a computer crash and Dawn has been super-busy. It won't be long before they are up.

These two kits are so new, not even Tammy and Dawn have them yet. I totally couldn't contain myself and had to post the previews. You can get these on the CD order right now but it'll be 2 weeks at least before they are up at the store unless I can arrange something else. Uploading on dial-up is so much slower than downloading, and I think most of us know how bad that is. I don't know how I did it before!

I have reached a creative block on the hometown postcard clusters, but don't worry, I'll get them done. I'm not taking anymore "orders" for them. I'm going to finish my list and post them all at once, along with a template of sorts for those that want to do one from scratch. You're on your own with the text-on-a-path part, lol!

Other projects I'm finishing are The Button Box, The Jewelry Box, CU Overlay Pack, Pedigree Chart Maker Kit and more word art template blocks.

I have templates completed thru 252. Yeah, I know!! I'm glad all of you are enjoying them. Forum here, forum there, I see some of you are making some FANTASTIC use of them. I'm in awe how fun, graceful and creative you guys are. And Swoosie cracks me up to no end about how she said she's using many of the templates colors as they are and demanded that I start using a palette for each. HILARIOUS! But not a bad idea there, you may be on to something. Just so you know, she has been taking textures and layer styles and simply using the templates as is without recoloring.

SCRAP TIP: For the overlay and layer mode novices out there, if you add an overlay and change the layer mode, you will see how it looks on the whole project. By merging this to a specific layer, it'll be dedicated to just that layer (or even layers if you connect them), instead of having it on the whole project. Have you ever tried using several overlays at once? You have to be careful when doing this. Merging the layers together will make you lose your effect. Merge them all at once with the layer to be applied to or one at a time. Simply merging overlay1 on to overlay2 ,then overlay3 and finally project layer, will produce undesirable results. Before merging, save your project in layers in case of a problem. Rename each save so you can retrieve earlier parts. I like to think of this as the ultimate undo tool. I name these as "scrappagenameEDIT#". This way I know what page and that it's not a finished project. I've mentioned this before, though I don't think I can recommend it enough. Just wait until you have a typo or display a page on a television set only to find one element out of whack.
